One more step, ancient mammoths live again.

Dream of reviving the dinosaurs and ancient animals like the sequel to Jurassic Park one more step closer to reality. The scientists succeeded in mapping the most ancient mammoth's genetic code, the elder brother of elephants that have thick body hair.

List of the genetic code is translated from cell extracts 20 clumps of hair taken from mummified mammoths mammoths found in permafrost in Siberia, Russia. Mamoth which can grow to more than 5 feet tall lived about 10,000 years ago.

If the entire genetic map (genome) is complete coded, it is not impossible mammoths can be revived through biotechnology. Scientists predict that conducting such research in the next 10-20 years, as the mammoth could be brought back to life as more advanced development of cloning technology, stem cell, and the like.

"That's possible. The need dipertanayakan precisely because we know can do suatau when, whether we should do?" Stephan said Schuster, an expert in biochemistry at Pennsylvania State University who conduct research.

Extraction of DNA from the hair snagat promising compared with the fossil bones that have been found in other ancient creatures. As an illustration, cell extracts from Neanderthal bones leaving only 6 per cent from a list of all the DNA.

While the mammoth's hair, as reported in the latest Nature journal, has managed to uncover 80 percent of the DNA list. Code remaining a matter of time considering the extracted cells are still extremely well-preserved intact in permafrost.

Still, no one scientist who knows how to exploit the genetic code to revive mammoths. Surely, the scientists found a way to produce embryonic harsu mammoths from the genetic material.

There are at least two ways that may be used to alter genetic material into living mammoths. The first way is to use an elephant as an intermediary cells that have genetic ko not much different. The other way is to produce a new organism by assembling parts per bagain gentika code. Both ways are equally complex and difficult to do now but not impossible in the future.

Japanese scientists involved in pure research Siberian mammoths have a even ambitions of other, more feasible. Today they are still trying to find the remaining sperm in the body that may be preserved mammoth carcasses. If sperm are still intact is not impossible that mammoths can be born from the womb of an elephant. Who knows.
